Bone stylus

The bone stylus is a Roman bradawl for writing on waxed wooden tablets, which were used as a notebook. It appeared inside a silo in which grain was no longer stored, and it started to contain trash. This piece dates from the end of the 2nd century BC, at which time the Iberians inhabitants of Allon were witnessing a process known as Romanization. 

It is a very simple piece. Archaeologists have already found some richer styli made of bronze and decorated, such as the bronze wolf-headed styli in the Museu de Prehistòria de València. However, this is the first stylus for everyday use that has been found in Vilajoiosa.

The stylus has a punch-shaped end for writing on wax and the opposite end is bevelled to squash writing, like a modern eraser.
